FAQs

How do I determine what is my level of Spanish and what class to join?
You can check your level at our website by clicking on “Proficiency Test”. This will help you to have a better idea of what your level is. However, our classes are mostly conversational and many times your grammar and writing skills are different from your oral skills. The best way to find out if the class is right for you is by attending the class. You can attend the class to make sure that is the right fit for you and there is no obligation to you if you are not happy with the level.
You can just try our classes until you find the right one for you.

Can I join a class at anytime or do I have to wait until the beginning of the session?
You can join a class at anytime. Depending on the time in which you join the class, the level will be different. You can check our schedule to see the different classes and the level they are at. We usually recommend visiting the class before enrolling to make sure this class is the right fit for you. There is no obligation to you if it is not.

What is the easiest and quickest way to catch up if I do join in the middle of a session?
If you feel like you need to catch up with the rest of the class, let us know. You can schedule private make-up classes with an instructor. The instructor will help you to catch up with the rest of the class by reviewing what they have done previously. The fee for the make-up classes is $30 per hour.

What if I miss a class?
If you miss a class or two, your next payment will be prorated for either one or two classes. In order to be able to prorate your class we need to be notified at least 24 hours in advance that you will not be attending class.  If you do not notify us one hour in advance you will not qualify and your next payment will not be prorated.

If I miss a class, are make-up classes allowed?
If you miss a class, you can schedule a make up session to catch up with the rest of the class ($30/hour). These make up sessions are either individual or in group, depending on whether there is more than one person from your class interested. During the make-up session the instructor will review with you everything that was done in class.

Will I actually be able to learn Spanish, since I will only be in class once a week and how long will it take?
While we have some estimated times and ideas according to our curriculum, learning a second language takes time. Be patient! Learning a language is not a question of several days. It depends on factors like:

1. Age - the younger you are when you start, the better.

2. Aptitude for language - some people are just better at language than others.

3. Effort you put into learning - if you practice every day you'll learn and remember a lot more than someone who goes to class once a week but never practices outside of class. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control.

So sit back and enjoy…
Just make sure you spend enough time with the language. That is the greatest guarantee of success!

Do the adult classes have different levels or parts?
Yes, you can check our levels by clicking on ”Levels” and choosing Beginner or Intermediate. You can check our schedule to see which level each class is at the moment.

Will teenagers feel comfortable in an adult class?
We usually recommend the students in the adult class to be over 18. Younger students can feel overwhelmed by the pace and structure of the classes. On the other hand, we are not totally opposed to someone under 18 to join the classes as long as the student feels satisfied and comfortable in class.

What’s the policy if I am late to class?
The class will start at its scheduled time. Just make sure that your entrance is not disruptive to the rest of the students and the instructor.
If you are the only student, the instructor will wait for you only 10 minutes. After 10 minutes the class will not take place.

What percentage of the class time will be devoted to speaking and to writing?

Thought it depends on the level of the class, our classes are mostly devoted to help you with your speaking skills. Nonetheless, writing and grammar are closely connected to being able to communicate effectively in the target language, so we frequently introduce grammar and writing exercises in class to help you improve your language skills.

Do I have to purchase the book? Can I follow along in class without a book?
All students in a group class need to have a book in order to follow the class. Also, many exercises sent as homework are from the book.

What if I want to be a part of a group class, however, my schedule does not fit with the current classes?
If we are not offering any group classes that fit your schedule, you will be placed on a waitlist until there is a sufficient amount of students to form a class at the requested time. Private classes can also be formed at your home or our location. This will allow you to choose your preferred time and location.

I will not be able to complete the 6 classes, will I be charged for those I cannot attend?
If you will not be able to attend the 6 classes and you know this in advance, then you can be pro-rated for up to 2 classes.

Will homework be assigned, and if so, how much will be given?
Because classes take place once a week, homework is assigned most of the time. The amount of homework is at the teacher’s discretion.
